Description
An interior courtyard of the building known as the Chilehaus in Hamburg, Germany. Constructed of brick, the Chilhaus exemplifies the brick expressionism of the 1920’s and is often known for the ship-like prow of its design. The building was commissioned by a shipping magnate who made his fortune from Chile selling saltpeter (a main component in explosives, fertilizers, etc). I found the courtyard very peaceful and comforting in light of its commission.
